Mainland Greece Area Bundle

The mainland of Greece north of the Gulf of Corinth is mountainous and largely un-touristed. The terrain is steep and rocky and public transport is limited. The influence of Greece’s neighbours is stronger in this region, where you can see a more Balkan appearance to buildings and towns. The beaches are beautiful, and the scenery is stunning. Our MP3 travel guides cover:
Olympia – known to be the site of the ancient Olympic Games.
Mycenae – during the second millennium, B. C., Mycenae was one of the major centres of Greek civilisation and the military stronghold, which controlled most of southern Greece.
Epidaurus – the birthplace of Apollo’s son, Asclepius. Still a centre of healing.
Mount Athos – a peninsula in Macedonia with twenty Orthodox monasteries. Sorry ladies, it’s a men only trip!
Meteora – ancient monasteries situated on a high rocky pinnacles. They were the location for the James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only”. Don’t forget to cover your legs when visiting the monasteries.
Corfu – OK, not the mainland I know, but it is not the Aegean either is it ?
