Charles V's Palace
The city of Granada is placed at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains at the confluence of three rivers (the Beiro, the Darro and the Genil) at a height of 738 metres above sea level, yet only one hour’s drive from the Mediterrean coast. Granada has a typical Mediterranean climate, but being a bit higher is cooler than some of the neighbouring cities. In 1492, the last Muslim sultan in Iberia, Muhammed XII surrendered Granada to Ferdinand and Isabella after a siege. The Muslim influence can still be seen in Granada’s buildings although the Catholics have also left their mark over the centuries. Our MP3 travel guides cover:
Charles V’s Palace – the Holy Roman Emperor’s Palace
The Cathedral and Capilla Real – while the Capilla Real is Gothic, the cathedral’s design was converted into a Renaissance style as fashions changed.
