Snow Report – 24 November 2010
ByWhen there’s snow in England, you know that the ski resorts must be piling it up laying a terrific base for the season. So it proves, with France, Austria and Switzerland all adding to good bases.
Austria
Healthy snowfall has added to the excellent conditions in many resorts incuding Hintertux, solden and Obergurgl. Lech, Zurs, Ischgl and Mayrhofen open today. Over the next week more snow is expected with between 30-50 cm forecast for most resorts. The western resorts are expected to have more snow and lower temperatures.
France
Tignes has had 25 cm of extra snow this week and conditions are good. Val D’Isere and Les Deux Alpes open this weekend. Val Thorens is now open with 8 lifts running and 15 pistes open to skiers. The snow is good although the cloudy weather reduced the visibility. After a bright weekend, France is expecting some more snow and up to 60 com is forecast.
Italy
Italy hasn’t share d in this snowfall. Conditions remain excellent in Cervinia, Val Senales and Passo Tonale. Several resorts will be opeing this weekend, including Gressoney-la-Trinite (10/145cm) and Champoluc (Monterosa), Cortina (Dolomites) and La Thuile. Snow is expected on Sunday and the first half of next week
Switzerland
Conditions are currently good in Switzerland after more snow. Davos had >25 cm this week. Verbier will open every day from this weekend. St Moritz and Pontresina will open and more of the Jungfrau region chairlifts will open too. More snow is expected from Sunday to Tuesday and then on Friday.
Overall, the foundation of excellent snow for the season is being laid all over the Alps.
